The high cost of publication fees charged by peer-reviewed journals is the biggest threat to many lecturers and young research scientists. An average Open Access (OA) Scopus indexed Journal charged between $8 - $3,900. This has created a great gap in academic publishing with a substantial number of researches with good findings ending up in our houses or in substandard journals (predatory journals) with little or no recognition particularly in the developing countries, like Nigeria.

Heather Morrison defines OA, as the free online dissemination of scholarly works (articles, books, technical reports, thesis or dissertation etc.) with little or no restrictions on downstream use. This is globally recognized as an optimal way of information dissemination. It is no doubt that information is power - this makes it expensive. Many approaches were in place by national, international, governmental, and private organizations to make the information as free as possible to the wider audience. These interventions include Sci-hub, Researchgate, Jstor and so on. 

Good journals are expensive and predatory journals publish at a cheap rate (but has no impact - not recommended). This makes it hard for many early career researchers to find a good and standard peer-review journal with little or no publication charges.

The UMYU Journal of Pure and Industrial Chemical Research (JPICR) is an OA peer-reviewed journal that accepts original manuscripts that have not been published or are under consideration for publication elsewhere. The journal accepts original research articles, review articles, short communications and technical reports in all aspects of chemistry and chemistry-related disciplines. 

You can publish with as low as N8,000 in UJPICR. The journal [ISSN: 2814-1628/2814-1636] is registered and indexed in a crossref with Digital Object Identifier (DOI). The Journal is published bi-annually (June and December) and it exists in both print and online copies.
